The Sport and Event Management 227 class donated a total of $2,000 from two spring semester class events. Class members split into groups to organize the "Bite'N Bid" pasta dinner/silent auction in support of Allied Churches of Alamance County, and the "Frosty Frolic" race in support of the Children's Home Society of North Carolina.
Held at Olde Forest Racquet Club in Elon on April 29, Bite’N Bid invited the community to enjoy a family dinner with the opportunity for attendees to bid on a variety of items acquired by class members.
Auction items included a helmet and football signed by Denver Broncos Hall of Fame inductee Floyd Little; an NCSU football signed by head coach Tom O’Brien; a Duke University, Coach “K” signed basketball; Wine baskets from Grove Winery & Vineyards; a 2 night/3day Outer Banks home/condo with 4 rounds of golf; a Red Sox Hall of Fame signed baseball from Eddie Kasko; and a Carl Edwards signed NASCAR/Aflac cap.
Organizers said the event would not have been possible without sponsors that included: Lowe’s Foods of Burlington, Burlington Royals, Durham Bulls, NC Zoo, NCSU Football, Los Angeles Kings Hockey Club, Harrison Seeler (Staples Center), Olive Garden, Piedmont Ale House, Outback Steak House, Lighthouse Resort Services, Rick Owen, Atlantic Coast Conference, Elon Athletics, Kelly Lebsack (Aflac), Shelley Roupas (Feel Good Frames) and Happy Kerns at Olde Forest.
Also held on April 29, Frosty Frolic took place on the football practice field at Elon. Wendy’s sponsored the event where racers consumed a frosty as they started the race, and another at the midpoint while running four laps for a total of 1.6 miles.
