William J. Burpitt has been named associate dean for graduate and executive programs for the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University.
Burpitt, a professor of management and former director of executive education and MBA programs, joined Elon University in 2002. Under his leadership, Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the part-time MBA program #1 in the South and #6 in the nation. The Princeton Review has ranked the program the nation’s fourth best administered program with the fifth best campus facilities.
“Bill’s leadership of the MBA program has played a significant role in the high rankings we consistently receive for the program,” said Mary Gowan, outgoing dean for the Love School of Business. “His efforts to build our executive education program have resulted in strong alliances with a number of companies in the area. As a result of these achievements, he was the most logical candidate to fill the new position.”
Burpitt noted, “One of the things I most appreciate about Elon is its entrepreneurial spirit – it’s willingness to change. We have a good part-time MBA program, but we can do much more. I’m grateful for the opportunity I have to make it better.”
Burpitt received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a doctorate in business policy and strategy from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining Elon, he was a professor and the MBA director at Meredith College. He also taught at Peace College.
