The Elon University Board of Trustees has elected spring 2011 graduate Greg Mader to a two-year term as youth trustee on the board. Mader is a Durham, N.C., native who received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics.
Mader is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. This fall, he will begin a doctoral program in applied mathematics at North Carolina State University, where he also received a teaching assistantship.
During his time at Elon, Mader was a member of the varsity soccer team and was named to the Academic All-American team in 2008 and 2009. He received dean’s list or president’s list recognition every semester at Elon.
An active researcher, Mader conducted two undergraduate research projects:
- “Differential Equation Models for Malaria Endemic Populations,” which examined distributions of human and mosquito populations that have been exposed to malaria and resulted in a paper submitted to the Journal of Biological Dynamics
- “An Examination of Nonmedical Use of Stimulants Among Undergraduate Students at Elon University: Links With Other Risk-Taking Behaviors,” which studied use and abuse of prescription medications.
In summer 2010, Mader completed an internship as an information technology analyst at Credit Suisse.
Mader’s two-year term on the board of trustees began June 1.
