John Burbridge, a professor of management, presented at the 41st Convention of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) on July 7 in Long Beach, Calif.
The topic of Burbridge’s presentation was “Larry Doby: The Forgotten Pioneer.”
John Harris, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, was also involved in developing the material. Doby was the second African-American to play major league baseball, signing with the Cleveland Indians 11 weeks after the debut of Jackie Robinson. Doby was also the second African-American to manage in the major leagues.
