Ryan Petitti '11 and Mike Iszard '11 presented a poster on June 9 titled "A Study of the Impact of Injuries on the 2010 Red Sox Performance" at the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) 41st Annual Convention in Long Beach, Calif.
By using statistical measures including Wins Above Replacement (WAR), the study showed that the Red Sox would have won the American League East in 2010 if it wasn’t for injuries to Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia, and Jacoby Ellsbury.
Their research was completed this past spring semester as part of the requirements in the Advanced General Studies course “Baseball and Statistics.” They were aided in their research by Stephen Fales ’11 who also graduated. Petitti was an economics major while Iszard was a business administration major with a management concentration.
