Foreign language faculty members Nina Namaste and April Post conducted a July 12 session on Venezuela with children from local public schools who are in Spanish language immersion classes.
The children chatted used the online video streaming service Skype to talk with someone who lives in Venezuela, and they asked her questions about life there.
Other Elon faculty and staff have participated in the program. Shawn Tucker, a faculty member in the Department of Art, hosted an art class in June. Raquel Cortes Mazuelas and Sylvia Munoz from el Centro are hosting a cooking class and Angel Garcia, assistant director of Residence Life – East Area, is conducting a class on sports later this month.
All classes are conducted in Spanish. The kids attend the summer sessions as a way to keep their language current in the summer.Several Elon University faculty and staff children are in the Spanish immersion program in the public schools.
