VaNcNews.com: Elections board challenges county

From VaNcNews.com (7/20/11): The Warren County Board of Elections took a firm stance on Tuesday against directives from the county regarding travel to meetings and whether or not the county furlough policy applies to the two elections employees.

During the board’s organizational meeting, Democrats Sandra Shearin and Jennie Franklin, and Republican Dr. Merwin Dieckmann took the oath of office for another two-year term after being reappointed earlier this month by the State Board of Elections. Shearin was re-elected chairman and Dieckmann re-elected secretary.

On a motion from Dieckmann, the board unanimously amended the agenda to add several items including the county attorney’s opinion on how the county travel and furlough policies apply to the board of elections, and a request for the county to appropriate at least $10,000 for a private attorney to represent the board of elections.
