The 2012 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges names Elon one of the nation's top 25 "Best Buy" private universities. The best buy schools are recognized for the quality of their academic offerings in relation to the cost of attendance.
Elon is among 10 North Carolina colleges and universities recognized in this year’s Fiske Guide. Elon, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Guilford College and Warren Wilson College are listed among the best buy schools. Other North Carolina schools included in the guide are Duke University, Davidson College, Wake Forest University, North Carolina State University, UNC-Asheville and UNC-Wilmington.
This is Elon’s eighth year in the Fiske Guide, which lists the “best and most interesting” colleges and universities out of the nation’s 2,200 four-year schools. Edited by Edward B. Fiske, former education editor for The New York Times, the annual guide has been published since 1982, selecting top schools from around the country based on academic quality and other factors.
From the guide’s profile on Elon: “A rapidly rising star among liberal arts colleges in the Southeast and an emerging name nationwide. With a welcoming environment and a supportive faculty, Elon is good at taking average students and turning them on to the life of the mind. Classic-looking campus adds to the appeal.”
