Interactive Media graduate places third in contest to redesign food label

Interactive Media graduate Bradley Mu G’11 recently placed third in a contest sponsored by the University of California-Berkeley School of Journalism that asked participants to redesign and improve the nutritional food label. His entry, along with the first and second place winners, was featured in the Well blog on the New York Times website.

Entries were judged by a panel comprising a food writer, consumer health activist, pediatrician, graphic designer and design professor. The winner entry came from a San Francisco visual designer.

Mu’s entry shares similarities with the food label used now, but it incorporates green type to identify healthier items in food and bold type to draw attention to food additives. It also incorporates a glycemic index.

The Well blog says that the project is now asking members of the public to vote on their favorites. Click the following link to visit the project’s website and to cast your vote for your favorite label among all that were submitted: http://berkeley.news21.com/foodlabel/
