Elon University’s campus bookstore opened for business Monday morning in the Elon Town Center on Williamson Avenue with students, faculty, staff and local citizens visiting a shop offering an expanded selection of college apparel, general interest books and school supplies.
Barnes & Noble at Elon University will operate on the following hours:
Mondays-Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Fridays from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Saturdays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Hours will expand for opening weekend, Family Weekend, Homecoming, football game days and other special occasions, and they will be posted as events occur. Parking for the store can be found in designated spaces along Williamson Avenue and in a parking lot behind the Elon Community Church, which sits directly across West College Avenue from the Elon Town Center.
Students visiting the store on Monday raved about the new location and its benefits over the previous location inside Moseley Center.
“It’s so much more school-spirited!” said Kacey Stark, a junior media arts & entertainment major from Nashville, who carried a box of textbooks she had rented from Barnes & Noble. “And the process of getting my books went a lot easier.”
“It’s exciting!” said junior Stephanie Alvarez, standing next to Stark late Monday afternoon. “They have a lot more apparel to wear with different styles.”
Campus shop manager Kathy Scarborough said that business was brisk and that new technology at the front countered was helping to make the check-out experience more efficient for customers. She also noted that special promotions on apparel will be taking place for the next three weeks.
The space previously occupied by the campus shop inside the Moseley Center will undergo renovations this fall in preparation for the new Student Professional Development Center.
