Elon named a top university for professional sales education

Elon University’s sales program in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business has been named a “Top University Sales Program for 2011” by the Sales Education Foundation, a component of The Dayton Foundation nonprofit established to promote university level educational programs in sales through the provision of scholarships, the creation of educational materials and other methods.

“It is great to see the sales program delivered by the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship out of the Chandler Family Professional Sales Center receiving this recognition,” Scott Buechler, interim dean for the Love School of Business. “The faculty leading the effort, Dr. Earl Honeycutt and Dr. Michael Rodriguez, have built a creative program in sales that prepares students to succeed in one of the fundamental areas of business. This recognition speaks volumes for the future of this young and dynamic program.”

Elon’s sales program, anchored by The Chandler Family Professional Sales Center, was selected based on its strong sales curriculum, university recognition and experiential learning component. The center focuses on promoting professional selling and sales management, conducting research that advances the field of sales and supporting experiential learning opportunities such as internships, use of its sales laboratory and participation in nationwide competitions and conventions.

“We are honored to be designated as a top sales center that prepares our students for successful sales careers,” said Earl Honeycutt, Martha and Spencer Love Term Professor of Marketing and director of the Chandler Family Center. “This honor is based upon a lot of hard work on the part of the faculty with our students ultimately benefiting with high paying jobs and successful careers with prestigious firms. I would like to thank the Chandler family, our business partners and the officers of Elon University for financially supporting our dream to prepare Elon students for rewarding careers in professional sales.”

The center was established in 2008 by an endowment gift from Elon trustee Thomas E. Chandler, owner of Chandler Concrete Company, and his family. It is an associate member of the University Sales Center Alliance.

The Love School of Business is accredited by AACSB International-The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. In addition to the Chandler Family Center, the school includes the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the Porter Family Professional Development Center, the William Garrard Reed Finance Center, the Business Fellows program, an executive education program, and the departments of accounting, economics, finance, management, and marketing and entrepreneurship.

Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked the school’s undergraduate program #60 out of 113 schools identified as the best undergraduate business programs, #26 in the nation for academic quality, #19 for entrepreneurship and #22 for sustainability. Elon’s part-time MBA program is ranked #1 in the South and #6 in the nation by Businessweek, and #4 for best administered program and #5 for best campus facilities by The Princeton Review.
