Leaders of the Elon Black Alumni Network (EBAN) leadership team gathered on campus July 30 to plan initiatives for the upcoming academic year, including enhanced Homecoming events and a new mentoring program to better connect alumni with current students.
Alumni in attendance included Mike Duggins ’92, EBAN president; Priscilla Awkard ’95, past president; Tracey Helton Lewis ’93 P’10, vice president; T.J. Reynolds-Emwanta ’01, communications co-chair; Karen Cain-Henderson ’90, communications co-chair; Darryl Smith ’86, development chair and Christopher Woods ’06, professional development and mentoring chair.
“Our EBAN leadership team reflects the quality student Elon has graduated through the years,” Duggins says.
The group finalized plans for the annual EBAN reunion at Homecoming 2011, scheduled for Oct. 21-23. The schedule will include a new networking event on Friday night to help alumni and current students interact and strengthen their professional contacts. EBAN leaders also put the finishing touches on plans for the group’s new student professional development/mentoring initiative, which will kick off this fall with a mentor luncheon. In addition, EBAN leadership are pleased to announce the launch of a new website and newsletter in September.
Alumni also had the chance to meet Janelle Bennett ’14, the first recipient of the Elon Black Alumni Scholarship, who dropped by the group’s meetings.
All black alumni are encouraged to get involved in these exciting new programs. Please contact Duggins (mike.duggins@saralee.com) or Durice White ’09, Elon Alumni Association liaison for EBAN (dwhite15@elon.edu or 877-784-3566), for more information.
