Students of all levels gathered on September 18, 2011 to celebrate a new year of leadership and the Isabella Cannon Leadership Program.
Sponsored by the Center for Leadership, this gathering of over 160 students allowed students to not only learn about their upcoming phase activities and learning experiences through the Cannon Program, but also to learn more about their personal potential.
The large group heard from two speakers: Laura Lee Sturm, a Junior Leadership Fellow and Phase II Director for the Center for Leadership, as well as Robert Moorman, Frank S. Holt, Jr. Professor of Business Leadership and Professor. Following a short welcome, from Steve Mencarini, Director of the Center for Leadership, and a presentation by Dr.Moorman, students broke out into sessions with their phase members. Here, students learned about their program and the different opportunities they would have to complete their phase.
“What’s Next?” was the basis of the presentation from Dr. Moorman, urging students to take their leadership skills a step further, and to challenge the boundaries of what they are used to, or what classes their majors required. Urging students to value the Liberal Arts education that we have, Professor Moorman told students to explore all that they can in college, and to learn everything they could. He made it clear that everything we do involves leadership, and that we were broadening our leadership skills in each class that we take.
