Please join the Religious Studies Department and Elon's LGBTQ Center on Oct. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Isabella Cannon Room (Center for the Arts) for an evening contemplating art, masculinity, pain, sexuality, and perhaps redemption.
Elon professor of Art History Kirstin Ringelberg and UNCC professor of Religious Studies Kent Brintnall offer two views on select paintings by Bacon. In his forthcoming book, Ecce Homo: The-Male-Body-in-Pain as Redemptive Figure, Brintnall interrogates the relationship between images of the male body in pain and the crucifixion.
Both Brintnall and Ringelberg engage theoretical discussions of the visual and of gender in their scholarship and teaching. This will surely be an interesting and invigorating dialogue and discussion.
