J. McMerty, the coordinator of video projects in the School of Communications, was selected as one of 20 faculty members nationwide to participate in the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation's Faculty Seminar Nov. 8-12 in Los Angeles.
This year’s event, which is sponsored by the Television Academy Foundation’s Education Programs department, will focus on a behind-the-scenes look at the primetime entertainment industry. During their five days in LA, the faculty members—all of whom were chosen by a committee to participate—will be a part of discussions and presentations with major studios, production companies, networks and production/programming people, according to the foundation’s website.
The site also says some of the topics covered may include the function of writers and producers, network pitching, digital entertainment and new media.
McMerty, who will join faculty from schools such as the University of North Carolina, San Diego State University, Ohio University and Hofstra University, is the coordinator of both the Elon in Los Angeles and Elon in New York City summer internship programs. He also teaches courses in the School of Communications.
