Elon has maintained its position as the nation’s top master’s-level university in the Open Doors 2011 report by the Institute of International Education, the leading indicator of top college international study programs.

The latest IIE survey covered the 2009-10 academic year.

Elon was once again the #1 ranked master’s-level university in the total number of students studying abroad, with 1,087 during the year. Elon ranked ahead of James Madison University, Villanova University, Appalachian State University, and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

Elon continues to rank high among master’s-level universities in the number of students it sent abroad on mid-length (#3) and short-term (#2) programs. Open Doors 2011 indicates that Elon University is one of only 24 institutions in the country that reported sending more than 70 percent of their students abroad at some point during their undergraduate careers.

Seventy-one percent of Elon University seniors who graduated in May 2011 had studied abroad at least once during their collegiate studies.
