Several campus offices have participated in a program to help employees play leadership roles in creating sustainable practices.

Elon University’s Office of Sustainability, in partnership with the Leadership and Professional Development Office, offered a program this fall to help departments and offices assess the environmental sustainability of their respective work practices.
The program, “Creating a More Sustainable Workplace,” is a response to the Sustainability Master Plan, itself a component of the Elon Commitment strategic plan.
Three identical sessions were offered on Sept. 28, Oct. 20 and Nov. 18. In each session, participants were provided with an overview of Elon’s sustainability efforts and strategies to help them be a Sustainability Leader in their office. After each session, participants were provided with a Sustainable Workplace Assessment Tool to help them assess the environmental sustainability of their offices.
Individuals who completed and returned the tool to the Office of Sustainability within three weeks were entered into a drawing for a free lunch for his/her department. So far, the Accounting (Administrative) Department and the Campus Center Operations Office have received a free lunch.
The drawing for the Nov. 18 session will take place the week of Dec. 12. The feedback provided by the participants this fall will help determine the next steps for this program.
