At the Fourth Annual Elon Law Intramural Moot Court Competition, held Nov. 2-7, twenty law students earned an invitation to join the law school's Moot Court Board. Grant Buckner and Chantelle Lytle were the competition champions.
The final round was judged by a distinguished panel of federal and state appellate judges, including: Chief Judge James A. Beaty, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina; Justice Robert H. Edmunds, Jr., North Carolina Supreme Court; Judge William Lindsay Osteen Jr., U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina; Judge Cressie H. Thigpen, Jr., North Carolina Court of Appeals; and N. Carlton Tilley, Jr., U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
Andy Jones and Meg Sparger were the first-runner up team in the competition. Buckner was awarded Best Oralist awards for both the final round and preliminary rounds. Buckner and Lytle won the tournament’s Best Brief award.
“The level of competition this year was exceptional, and the moot court board ran an outstanding competition,” said Alan Woodlief, an associate professor and director of the law school’s moot court program. “The competitors were challenged in every round by thoughtful and probing questions from exceptional panels of lawyers and judges, and the finalists enjoyed the phenomenal experience of having five federal court and state appellate court judges for our final round.”
The top 20 competitors, all second year students, were invited to join the Moot Court Board. They are as follows: Sarah Boshears, Grant Buckner, Jennifer Crissman, Sarah Dixon, Will Drath, LaDonte Garrett, Dustin Gill, Daniel Harris, Trevor Huck, Zachary Illig, Andy Jones, Gwendolyn Lewis, Chantelle Lytle, Jenifer McCrea, Timothy Mearns, Jennifer Meeks, Jason Senges, Meg Sparger, Adam Spivey, and John Warren.
