Hundreds of Elon University students depart this week for destinations around the globe during Winter Term 2012 with new programs in Dubai/India, Greece/Turkey and Vietnam.
As of Jan. 3, 2012, the Isabella Cannon International Centre reported 591 students taking part in 24 traditional academic programs to nations in South and Central America, Africa, Europe, Asia and Australia. Dozens more are traveling in programs linked to Project Pericles, the iMedia graduate program, a human service studies practicum and the Business Fellows program in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.
Elon University President Leo M. Lambert and his wife, Laurie, also will be visiting with students in various programs in India. The president is on Twitter and can be followed at @HeadPhoenix for updates on his travels.
New programs for January 2012 include:
“Business and Culture of Vietnam” (Vietnam)
“EUROMED: Melting Pot or Frying Pan?” (Turkey/Greece)
“Business and Culture of the Indo-Gulf” (India/Dubai)
This fall marked the second time that students enrolled in Winter Term overseas programs were required to take a one-credit course that introduced them to what they should plan to experience this month.
Paul Geis, assistant director of affiliations and exchanges in the Isabella Cannon International Centre, said many professors leading the overseas programs have offered positive reviews of the one-credit course.
“It sets an academic expectation and firm grounding, and it allows the students and faculty to get to know each other beforehand as they prepare culturally for the experience,” he said.
