Laura Roselle, professor of political science, presented a paper at the Southern Political Science Association annual meeting in New Orleans, Jan. 12.
The paper – Giving Credit When Credit is Due? The Death of Osama bin Laden and Credit Giving in the US House of Representatives – was co-authored with Mileah Kromer. The paper addressed the conditions under which members of Congress gave credit to President Barack Obama for the death of Osama bin Laden in May 2011. The research shows that among Democrats, constituency support of the president (as measured by vote share) and seniority affected the likelihood that members of Congress gave credit to the president.
