Associate Professor Lynne Kurdziel - Formato recently returned from Denmark where she spent Winter Term 2012 directing the Danish premiere of Pasek & Paul’s EDGES.
Lynne’s concept set the production in our world of electronic communications – from Facebook and iPhone character updates to live stream video via ipads – including an interactive preshow where the audience could post to the characters’ Facebook page AND receive response. EDGES utilizes cutting edge technology in all design aspects as well a newly created guitar part, written specifically for this production. Soren Moller, Artistic Director/Producer of the Fredericia Theatre was instrumental in facilitating an incredible collaborative forum for all artists involved. Lynne’s research included observing the habits of her students on a daily basis and how they utilized technology in their daily lives to “connect.”
The composer and lyricist Benj Pasek and Justin Paul were in attendance opening night. Justin Paul said (posted to Facebook, of course):
“Still reeling after the incredible opening of EDGES in Fredericia, Denmark! Congrats to Lynne Kurdziel Formato, Søren Møller, Thomas Møller, the tremendous cast and musicians, and everyone else involved in putting up this spectacular production! we are thrilled and honored!”
Kim Moke, Director of the Stage School in Hamburg, Germany posted: “It was a pleasure to sit in the audience and see Broadway quality in Fredericia, Denmark. Great cast, super book and music, superb director, innovative technology and a very committed producer. Thank you!”
