J. Karl Sherrill G'08 and Sarah Smith '98 were named to the annual list of the Piedmont Triad's Top 40 Leaders Under 40 by The Business Journal on Feb. 16.
Sherrill leads the manufacturing specialty group of Senn Dunn Insurance’s Greensboro office. He was recognized as the 2011 Young Agent of the Year by the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina after three years in the industry. Upon his completion of Elon’s MBA program in 2008, Sherrill received the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business’ Behrman Award, which recognizes the program’s most outstanding graduate.
Always looking to share his knowledge with others, Sherrill serves on the LSB’s board of advisors and the Chandler Family Professional Sales Center Advisory Board, and is an adjunct professor of business at High Point University. He also serves in leadership roles for the Boy Scouts and at Jamestown United Methodist Church. Sherill and his wife, Melissa, live with their three children in Jamestown, N.C.
Smith serves as director of marketing and communications for the Reynolda House Museum of American Art in Winston Salem. She developed the first retail partnership for the Reynolda House Museum of American Art and has created special events and delved into social media to engage a younger audience.
She is a founding member and current chair of Young Leaders United, an arm of the United Way of Forsyth County, and is also vice president of the Forsyth County Tourism Alliance.
