Assistant Professor Omri Shimron recently performed and taught at Duke University.
On Friday, March 2, he performed Frederic Rzewski’s hour-long 36 Variations on “The People United Will Never Be Defeated!”, a contemporary work for piano solo, which he presented to the Elon community on Sept. 15. The concert, part of Duke’s “Encounters with the Music of our Time” series, also featured the world premiere of Michael Trinastic’s chamber opera The Yellow Wallpaper. Trinastic is a composer who holds a Ph.D in music composition from Duke (2011).
On Thursday, March 1, Omri taught a master class for piano students at Duke, which focused on contemporary repertoire. His student included three undergraduate piano students who played works by Bartók, Prokofiev, and a work Stephen Jaffe, a professor of a composition at Duke.
