How to find free materials to engage your students

Are you a faculty member who wants to include more multimedia components in your courses? Have you been asked to teach a course outside your area of specialization? Are you looking for alternatives to expensive textbooks?

Join Dan Reis, Instructional Technologist in TLT, to explore how Open Educational Resources (OERs) can help. OERs are videos , podcasts, images, simulations, games, syllabi, readings, textbooks, handouts and other materials, often developed by universities, that you can use in your teaching for free. Websites like MIT’s Open CourseWare, Rice University’s Connexions and YouTube.com/edu and others offer thousands of materials for many disciplines. This session will give you tools to find and evaluate OERs, demonstrate how OERs can integrate with Moodle, and help you identify ways you can use OERs in your instruction.

This session follows Open Education Week, a worldwide movement to increase awareness of open educational resources. http://www.openeducationweek.org/2012/01/18/what-is-open-education/

Reserve your space and lunch by March 14.
