Alexandra Scovel ’08 receives award from University of South Carolina

Alexandra Fippinger "Alex" Scovel '08 received the Exemplary Service to Carolina Community Award from the University of South Carolina at the institution's Annual Recognition Breakfast in April.

Scovel, who received her master’s degree in higher education administration from USC in 2010, is a coordinator for volunteer programs in the university’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The Exemplary Service to Carolina Community Award recognizes Scovel’s constant desire to go beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the lives of students, parents and others connected to the university.

In the past year, Scovel started two programs – the Gamecock Alumni Recruitment Network and Gamecock Connection – that enlist USC graduates and current students more purposefully in the recruitment of prospective students. Scovel also manages the admissions office’s student telecounseling programs and teaches the U101 first-year student transition course, among other duties.

“I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award than Alex,” said Elizabeth Orehovec, assistant director of admissions, in her nomination for Scovel. “She is an incredible staff member who really has made an impact on USC students, staff and alumni.”
