Five local young alumni returned to campus April 30 to share advice with more than 100 Elon students preparing to embark upon summer internship experiences.
The Elon graduates who returned to take part in the Student Alumni Council’s Internship Sendoff dinner were:
- Molly Boyce ’09, sponsorship services manager for the Durham Bulls Baseball Club
- Stephen Dahlem ’07, sales manager for the Carolina Inn
- Devin Kelley ’08, director of client services at Method Savvy
- Danaka Walker ’10, sales and executive communications for IBM
- Hillary Waugh-Bruce ’08, deputy director for NARAL Pro Choice-NC
Current students had the opportunity to speak with recent Elon graduates not only about internships but also how their Elon experiences helped them land and succeed in their first jobs out of college. Topics of discussion included skills they learned at Elon that set them apart in the professional world; moments they handled failure with grace; and what to expect when walking into a professional environment for the first time.
“You’re going to feel like you’re treading water,” Boyce said, reflecting on her first internship experience. “Go into it with the confidence that Elon taught you what you need to know.”
“Go out of your way to work harder than everyone else,” Kelley added.
The program was sponsored by the Student Alumni Council, which is an extension of the Elon Alumni Association. Click here to learn more about the Student Alumni Council.
