A Sport and Event Management class planned a golf tournament and dinner this month to commemorate Associate Professor Jim Drummond, who has taught at Elon University for a quarter century with plans to retire at the end of the spring semester.

At Drummond’s request, event proceeds totaling $3,150 were shared to support the Elon Sport and Event Management Endowed Scholarship and the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Foundation Scholarship. Each of these scholarship funds provides direct support for student needs.

Friends, faculty, staff and former students at the April 22 event shared several touching and humorous stories. A special picture slideshow was also featured at the dinner. Giveaways were extended to banquet attendees along with a featured silent auction item donated by Village Realty, Outer Banks, N.C.

Upon leaving the event, all guests signed a picture frame for Drummond along with a “goodie bag” filled with items donated by Showtime Networks, Inc.

Several businesses and individuals contributed to make the Drummond Golf Classic a success, including presenting sponsors Village Realty, Ken Miller, Lighthouse Resort Services, and Showtime Networks, Inc.

Student sponsors included Chris Cranfill ’02 & Josh Cranfill ’07, The City of Burlington Parks & Recreation Department, and Site Solutions, Inc. Cart Sponsors were YoZone, Nationwide Direct Mortgage, and the Wyndham Championships.

Brenda Drummond, Jim’s wife, assisted with the event as well, helping to secure items distributed to guests and gathering photos to celebrate her husband’s career.
