Robert T. Deacon, “Enhancing the Wealth of Our Oceans: New Approaches to Marine Management”
McCrary Theatre, 7:30 p.m.
The consequences of commercialized fishing were forecasted more than 50 years ago and recent reports project a collapse of all groups of marine organisms before 2050. Pending catastrophes, both ecological and economic in nature, are not at all new in this realm and most frequently point to mismanaged operations. An optimism remains for the twin goals of marine conservation and economically healthy global fishing sectors. Deacon has authored numerous articles on natural resource management and the interface between political systems and policy design.
