Associate Professor Todd Coleman continued his service on the Barlow Endowment board of advisors this summer with a weeklong meeting this summer to judge entries for the 2012 Barlow International Prize.
The board, along with representatives of the artists and ensembles that premiered the newly commissioned work, reviewed hundreds of musical scores submitted by composers from around the world and ultimately selected one of the composers to compose a major new work.
This year’s commission was a $12,000 award to compose a new work for A Cappella Choir. The winning composer’s work will be premiered in 2014 by a consortium of three choirs: BBC Singers (London), Latvian Radio Choir (Latvia), and Volti (San Francisco).
This is Coleman’s third year on the Barlow board of advisors, part of a five-year appointment.
