Buffie Longmire-Avital, an assistant professor in psychology, presented her research poster titled "How Sociocultural Views Influence Perceptions of Sex Partner Availability for Black Women" at the annual conference for the American Psychological Association in Orlando, Fla., Aug. 2-5.
The research presented examined how compromising personal standards in sexual male partner selection mediates the predictive influence of having a salient racial identity in combination with endorsing sexual double standards that favor men and not women on the perception of perceived male partner availability. Funding for this research was through the Hultquist New Faculty Research award.
