David Stone ’14 was awarded a McGraw-Hill Diversity and Inclusion scholarship at The McGraw-Hill Companies’ annual intern luncheon last month.
Stone, an accounting and finance major, has spent this summer in New York as a Research Acquisition & Distribution Intern for S&P Capital IQ, a brand of The McGraw-Hill Companies.
At the luncheon, Chairman, President and CEO Harold McGraw III and Chief Diversity Officer Terri Austin presented the Diversity and Inclusion scholarship to Stone and four other interns. The scholarship winners each received $5,000 and were recognized for their demonstrated commitment to diversity and their essays on the impact that diversity and inclusion have had on their lives.
During the presentation, Austin highlighted some of the accomplishments of the five scholarship winners stating that the award is provided to “summer interns who demonstrate a commitment to community service, a strong work ethic, and an understanding of the value of diversity and inclusion.”
“It is an honor to be a recipient of such a fine award that distinguishes and highlights my actions both in and out of the office,” Stone said. “I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to intern with Standard and Poor’s, a renowned financial service firm that also puts a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion.“
During his internship, Stone worked as a liaison between the company’s clients and sales contacts at major contributors. Stone streamlined the entitlement process to fulfill clients’ requests to access broker reports. He also partnered with the private equity research team to generate a report on global trends in the infrastructure sector of private equity.
“Working in New York this summer has opened my eyes to the broad array of opportunities in the financial industry,” Stone said. “My education at Elon, coupled with my internship experience this summer will go a long way into making myself more employable. I am excited to take my experiences at Standard & Poor’s back to Elon and look forward to sharing them in the classroom.”
