The U.S. Navy is transporting the donated materials to the African nation at no cost to the university or the recipients.

Elon University this summer continued development projects with partners in Ghana’s Volta region.
Faculty, students, staff and alumni donated five pallets of books and one pallet of medical supplies for schools in the Sokode traditional area and the community clinic in Kpoeta.
At Elon, support for the initiative has come from students in the Ghana Winter Term class, Project Pericles, the Department of Moving and Setups, and the new student service organization, Elon Partners in International Development / Friends of Ghana.
As in the past, shipping the materials has been made possible due to the assistance of the U.S. Navy’s Project Handclasp, which is transporting the donated items to Ghana without charge.
