From BlueRidgeNow.com (8/15/12): It's a shame Henderson County taxpayers won't learn the details of why the county's insurance carrier paid $90,000 to settle a female deputy's claim against former sheriff Rick Davis.

Under terms of the settlement, Davis and the former deputy agreed to never discuss what happened or to “disparage” each other. The public is left in the dark as to why Davis, who took medical leave last year citing “erratic behavior” and a mental illness diagnosis and later retired from office, would agree to such a payment. It states: “Davis expressly denies any and all liability.”

The plaintiff, former deputy Pamela Cannon, agreed to release Davis from any and all claims, “to terminate further controversy,” according to the settlement. That was her right. However, the best way to settle a controversy is not through secrecy and cover-up.
