Though Lakeside Dining Hall opens in January and Harden Dining Hall is gone for new campus housing, students have more flexibility in campus dining.

Elon University’s Dining Services has made several temporary accommodations for students this fall as work continues on a future state-of-the-art dining hall attached to the Moseley Center.
Expanded hours in McEwen Dining Hall, additional seating in The Colonnades Dining Hall, and extra “to go” options around campus will help compensate for larger crowds expected in both eateries due to the loss of Harden Dining Hall. Harden, which served 600 diners each day, was torn down over the summer as construction begins on the new Global Neighborhood residential complex north of Moseley Center.
“We really hope that students will be happy with the changes,” said Kate Nelson, the marketing manager for Elon Dining Services. “We’ve tried to make everything as convenient as possible.”
University and ARAMARK leaders say they hope students understand the unique circumstances on campus this fall and appreciate their patience as existing facilities handle larger-than-usual crowds.
In The Colonnades, the 1889 Grill Room will be converted into seating for the dining hall to accommodate extra demand. Croutons will also have expanded hours during the week as well as weekends to match those of Boar’s Head Deli. Additional seating has also been set up next to the Fountain Market, where employees will clear tables for students.
Plus, at the top of the stairs to the upstairs dining hall, two cash registers have now been installed to make it faster for students to get food.
In McEwen Dining Hall, breakfast will now be served Monday through Friday, plus dinner on Sunday, in addition to regular hours. Danieley Commons will be replaced with a P.O.D. Express Convenience Kiosk stocked with sandwiches, salads, snacks and drinks.
“They’re not losing anything at Danieley,” Nelson said. “It’s just going to look a little bit different.”
Construction on the future Lakeside Dining Hall will be completed in December with a soft opening scheduled for January. Lakeside will be connected to Moseley Center, nearly doubling the size of the facility. The two-story building will feature an exposed beam ceiling and house retail dining options, a large dining hall and a large, second-story multi-purpose conference room similar to the existing McKinnon Hall in Moseley Center.
Outside the conference area, there will be a second-floor patio overlooking Young Commons. An outdoor plaza facing the shores of Lake Mary Nell will provide a gathering space for students between the dining hall and the Center for the Arts.
