Dean Paul Parsons of the School of Communications led sessions on diversity, faculty, resources and assessment at an Aug. 23 Accrediting Council workshop in Chicago for 60 university programs seeking accreditation in the discipline.
Parsons co-authored the assessment guide for programs seeking accreditation or reaccreditation by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC).
During Elon’s own four-day site visit last fall, a camera crew followed the ACEJMC review team to its meetings with faculty, students and administrators across campus. The 20-minute video, produced by J McMerty, was shown and enthusiastically received at the Chicago session.
On Aug. 24, the Accrediting Council itself met to consider 10-year revisions to its standards. Elon is the only university with two elected representatives on the 32-member Council — Parsons representing the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASJMC) and Associate Dean Don Grady representing the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
