Supply drive nets thousands of school items for local children in need

The Elon University community donated thousands of school supplies this month for more than 600 students designated as homeless in the local Alamance Burlington School System.

Twenty student volunteers representing the Student Government Association, the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, and the Phoenix volleyball team sorted and packed items including 144 backpacks, 48,050 sheets of paper, 311 composition books, 855 spiral notebooks, 7,868 crayons, 3,081 pencils, 2012 pens and 1,382 personal care items.

This was the second year in a row that Elon students, faculty and staff donated school supply items.

For those who still wish to make contributions, call (336) 278-7200 and students will pick them up during an additional delivery run next week.
