Hawfields Middle School teacher Kim Poe '08 was named the Alamance-Burlington School System's Teacher of the Year during a ceremony Sept. 6.
Poe teaches sixth-grade intensive reading and social studies at Hawfields, located in Mebane, N.C. She became eligible for the ABSS honor when she received the school’s teacher of the year award in the spring. She was selected as a finalist from a pool of teacher of the year winners from schools across the county.
Two other alumni of the School of Education, Kim Freeman Rate ’06 G’11 and Jayne Weigand Woodruff ’94, were among the eight finalists for the ABSS award. Rate teaches second grade at Smith Elementary School in Burlington. Woodruff is a fourth-grade teacher at Burlington Day School.
