The newly named Isabella Cannon Global Education Center will add the Study USA program
This fall, Isabella Cannon International Centre will adopt a new name: the Isabella Cannon Global Education Center. The change reflects a recognition that intercultural experiences occur both outside and inside the United States.
To complement Elon’s top-ranked international study programs, the university will add a program named Study USA for domestic study experiences. Phil Smith, previously of the Truitt Center for Religious and Spiritual Life, will serve as interim director of Study USA and will support the growing Elon in Los Angeles and Elon in New York City programs.
Smith will also support other existing faculty-led domestic study programs and will promote and facilitate new initiatives with experiential domestic travel components.
The Global Education Center is led by Woody Pelton, whose title has been changed to Dean of Global Studies. The Center supports a broad range of other international activity, including the support of international students, faculty and scholars, international programming, language and service activities through El Centro, and offers support for the international Fellows program and the Isabella Cannon International Pavilion learning community.
This fall, Kevin Morrison joined the Global Education Center as the new director of study abroad and assistant dean of global studies. Following four years teaching in Japan, Morrison has spent 14 years as an international education professional, most recently as director of international programs at Meredith College.
