Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, N.C., has established an endowed scholarship in support of graduate students enrolled in Elon University’s School of Health Sciences.
The $100,000 charitable gift creates the Twin Lakes Community Endowed Scholarship for Health Sciences, which will support deserving students in the school’s Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Physician Assistant Studies programs. Students from Alamance County will be given preference when the scholarship is awarded.
“Twin Lakes Community is pleased to partner with Elon University to provide scholarships for deserving students from Alamance County and the surrounding area,” said Charles Harris ’69, president and CEO of Twin Lakes. “Both organizations recognize the current and future demand for well-trained health professionals, particularly physical therapists and physician assistants. Our scholarship will enable the Elon School of Health Sciences to produce exceptionally qualified professionals in this field which will benefit not only the residents of our community but the community at large.”
Elon’s School of Health Sciences was established in April 2011 and serves students in the existing DPT program as well as students in the new PA studies program, which enrolls its first class in January 2013. The school is housed in the Gerald L. Francis Center, a renovated facility including state-of-the-art classrooms, research facilities and laboratories on East Haggard Avenue.
“This endowed $100,000 scholarship is the largest scholarship for the School of Health Sciences,” said Elizabeth Rogers, dean of the School of Health Sciences. “It is very exciting to have Twin Lakes come forward to support students in the health sciences with this generous gift.”
Twin Lakes Community is one of North Carolina’s largest continuing care retirement communities, and it has served residents and their families from throughout the United States for nearly 30 years.
