Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian and Italian American Studies Samuele Pardini gave a presentation March 13, 2012 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In his talk, titled “Observations on Women’s Life and Parallels with the American South,” Dr. Pardini related Booker R. Washington’s perceptions of the status of Sicilian peasants, specially women, to the female slaves of the South in the United States. He also made allusions and connections to the Italian film Nuovomondo (Golden Door), which is about immigration from Sicily.
