The Global Education Center hosted representatives from Semester at Sea, the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, the Fulbright Program, and CIEE: the Council on International Education and Exchange for the second-annual Faculty & Staff Opportunities Fair.
The Isabella Cannon Global Education Center held the second annual Faculty & Staff Opportunities Fair on Wednesday, October 10. Four organizations were represented at the fair: CIEE: the Council on International Education and Exchange; the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS); Semester at Sea; and the Fulbright Program. Each organization had an opportunity to give a general overview of the opportunities they offer for faculty and staff, and then attendees were invited to speak to the representatives individually.
Each organization offers a wide variety of opportunities for faculty and staff. Opportunities with CIEE include exchanges for staff members, academic review opportunities for faculty, and about 15 International Faculty Development Seminars on an annual basis which are open to both faculty and staff. DIS hosts visiting faculty each semester, as well as conferences open to both administrators and faculty. Semester at Sea recruits faculty and staff from around the country to lead each of its three voyages annually. The Fulbright program offers a wide variety of programs and grants for educators, including short- and long-term teaching and research grants and International Education Administrators seminars.
During the fair, Associate Provost Tim Peeples reminded attendees that the university is supportive of and values these experiences for faculty. This reflects the “unprecedented commitment to diversity and global engagement,” outlined in the Elon Commitment strategic plan.
Faculty and staff were unable to attend the fair but who are interested in any of these opportunities should visit the Global Education Center to learn more.
