The John R. Kernodle Jr. Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement hosted its annual Fall Networking Lunch on Oct. 23 in McKinnon Hall. Held each semester, this event is part of the support opportunities offered to faculty seeking to connect with community nonprofits.
This fall, 32 Academic Service Learning courses are supported by the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement. At this year’s luncheon, 22 faculty from 10 departments, along with the Kernodle Center staff, met with representatives from more than two dozen local nonprofit organizations.
Organization representatives and service learning faculty made introductions, formed new initiatives and deepened service learning relationships during the luncheon.
“I always look forward to attending the networking lunch,” said Assistant Professor Mandy Gallagher in the School of Communications. “Having the opportunity to speak face-to-face with community partners allows for meaningful connections to be made between my classes and the community. This luncheon has afforded me the opportunity to develop relationships with important community organizations. I feel very fortunate to be supported so much by the Kernodle Center.”
