Assistant Professor Amy M. Johnson presented new research at the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association’s annual conference in Mobile, Ala., from Nov. 1-4.
Johnson’s paper, “Slavery, Freedom, and Memories of Slaveholding among the Maroons of Jamaica,” uses memory, identity, and historical context to draw conclusions about the experiences of slaves in these autonomous and non-literate communities in the Jamaican interior.
The research was funded by a Hultquist stipend and FR&D.
