Get involved with Elon’s Toys for Tots campaign (Dec. 3 deadline)

The Elon University Student Government Association and the Office of Student Development and Auxiliary Services in conjunction with Alamance County Marine Corps League and Marine Corps Reserve will sponsor donations for “Toys for Tots” on the Elon Campus.

The local Toys for Tots campaign assisted 3000 families in Alamance County in 2011 by working in cooperation with other agencies and churches to distribute toys to needy children. Our help can provide a tangible sign of hope for economically disadvantaged children at the holidays. As you can imagine, with recent economic turns and mass layoffs in the county, the need in Alamance County continues to grow. These agencies and families need our help more than ever!

How can you help? There are many ways individuals, organizations and other groups (residence halls, classes, office suites, etc.) can help with the Toys for Tots Campaign:

Drop off new unwrapped toys at labeled collection receptacles located in Moseley Center (near the mailroom and outside of the SGA Office- 221-A), Lindner Hall, and the first floor of the Alamance Building (near the elevator) November 19-December 3. Can’t locate a container? Call the Office of Student Development and Auxiliary Services at 7205 and we will make arrangements to have someone pick it up! We ask that all toy donations be made by December 3, 2012 so the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit and League can distribute toys in time to local social services agencies.

Make a tax deductible financial donation to the Toys for Tots Foundation. The foundation allocates contributions to local Marine Corps Units to serve the children locally. Checks for tax deductible donations may be made payable to the Toys for Tots Foundation and mailed via campus mail to Campus Box 2970 (no stamp needed!). We will collect checks and present them to the local Marine Corps Reserve Unit on December 4. Your tax receipt will be mailed to you.
