Alumni gather to paint a familiar Elon scene.

This fall, members of Elon’s Charlotte alumni chapter gathered at a local art studio to paint a familiar scene: the Phoenix Rising statue that overlooks Rhodes Stadium. As part of an event organized by chapter board member Allison Barton ’09, attendees used a rendering of the statue by a professional artist as a guide to paint their own version of the picture.
“Our alumni chapter plans activities that will appeal to a wide range of our members, and the painting event was a great opportunity for Charlotte alumni to reconnect in a different setting,” said Barton, who has been active with the chapter since moving to Charlotte after graduation. “Participating in alumni events keep me connected to Elon even though I’m no longer on campus.”
The Charlotte chapter will hold its next event to coincide with Elon Alumni Association’s national networking week, Jan. 28 – 31, when alumni chapters across the nation will host events designed to connect Elon alumni to the university’s rapidly growing professional network. For last year’s networking week, the Charlotte chapter organized an event that featured a keynote speaker, followed by roundtable discussions segmented by various professional industries such as event management, real estate and finance.
All Elon alumni chapters and clubs are run by local alumni volunteers, who meet regularly to plan events and programs that allow Elon alumni to reconnect with the university and each other. These chapters and clubs host annual events sponsored by the Alumni Association, including Welcome to the City events, National Networking Week, and Month of Service. Individual chapters and clubs may also host other activities related to networking, lifelong learning, service, admissions, Elon athletics and socials.
