Students in MKT311D&E: Principles of Marketing created and presented marketing plans for 12 nonprofit organizations and small businesses as part of their coursework in the fall.
The course was led by Randy Moser, instructor of marketing and entrepreneurship.
“The objective of this assignment was to provide students with a real-life scenario to give them real experience in developing and presenting a marketing plan, complete with all the challenges and issues while bringing added value to Elon, the student and the organization,” Moser said.
Several company representatives as well as marketing experts attended the students’ presentations and gave their perspective on the developed plans. The jurors that attended were Chisa D. Pennix-Brown of The Social Media Concierge and Deborah Bryant of Bryant Marketing.
The local companies the students developed marketing plans for were The Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden, Leap Frog Academy Learning Center, 16 Cents, The Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue, Life Force and the Living, Out of the Garden Project, Elon Academy, Downtown Barber Shop, Triad Blackhawks Lacrosse League, and Pandora’s Pies. The non-local nonprofits were InterGenerate and Keep America Beautiful.
“It was a great hands on experience that put all of our textbook terms into reality,” said Danin Greusel ’14. “My team worked with the Carolina Great Pyrenees Rescue located in Winston Salem, NC. The nonprofit rescues, nurtures and places Great Pyrenees dogs. Professor Moser guided us through our marketing plans and on the day of the presentation, our contact actually brought in a Great Pyr and the all of the work we put into the semester truly paid off just by seeing a rescued dog in a safe and happy home.”
