A team of Martha and Spencer Love School of Business students competed this past weekend in the McDonough-Hilltop Business Strategy Challenge (MHBSC) at Georgetown University.
The Elon team of Patrick Brown ’14, Elizabeth Jester ’14, Michael Small ’14 and Nicholas Unkovic ’14 was one of 16 teams selected from the world’s leading business schools to participate in the competition. The students were charged with analyzing a case focused on Goodwill of Greater Washington, D.C. and presenting unique and sustainable solutions to the non-profit organization’s problem.
Assistant Professor Christina Benson, who served as the team’s advisor, noted the case “was highly complex and challenging…involving overlapping issues of logistics/operations management, branding/marketing, social media strategy, e-commerce, and non-profit finance/business development.”
“We worked well together as a team,” said economics and political science double major Patrick Brown. “Getting to learn about the ideas and suggestions of the other teams was very interesting, as was getting to meet other students from around the world.”
The finalists for the competition were Georgetown University (first place), Queensland University of Technology (second place), Northeastern University (third place) and American University (fourth place).
The MHBSC is a non-profit case consulting competition organized by Hilltop Consultants, a consulting group at Georgetown University, and primarily sponsored by the McDonough School of Business.
