Faculty members Resa Walch, Lynda Butler-Storsved, Carol Smith, Liz Bailey and Jeff Milroy engaged in scholarly writing, conference presentations and leadership positions during the fall semester and Winter Term.
- Carol Smith, associate professor of health and human performance, served as a GAP mentor and facilitator part of the fall semester. GAP is a special 13-week fall term experience designed for students who wish to begin their Elon education through a different perspective while still earning 8 hours of academic credit. Students enrolled in the GAP Program will participate in service learning, leadership development, international travel and education linked to outdoor experiences. Smith was also named a Sustainability Faculty Scholar.
- Lynda Butler-Storsved, lecturer of health and human performance and Carol Smith, associate professor of health and human performance, were named 2012-13 Leadership Faculty Scholars at Elon University.
- Lynda Butler-Storsved, lecturer in the health and human performance, published an article “The Case for Cultivating Intrinsic Motivation: Strategies for Putting the FUN Back into Youth Sports,” in the Journal of Coaching Education, a publication from the National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). The article presents tools that groups and organizations as well as parents and coaches can utilize to encourage positive sporting involvement that inspires health behavior for life. Some strategies included were: intrinsic motivation, task-oriented coaching and competitive engineering.
- Resa Walch, professor of health and human performance and Judy Esposito, associate professor of human service studies, presented an abstract, “Avoiding Pedagogical Solitude: An Interdisciplinary Learning Collaborative,” at the International Society of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada this fall.
