"Elon in the Morning," a half-hour program featuring weather, sports, entertainment, fashion, health and cooking segments, debuts at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 on Channel 5.
A product of Elon Local News, the student-run broadcast news organization at the university, the show will be hosted by Nicole Bloom ’16 and Matt Lee ‘16, and produced by Katie Maraghy ‘15.
“This is an incredible opportunity for our staff to grow and work in lighter news, expanding the kind of content we cover while maintaining the integrity of our Monday night show,” Maraghy said. “The chance to cover both local and national news, as well as lighter stories and segments will be an incredible learning experience, and I expect it to be lot of fun.”
Along with news stories, ELN is looking to bring local talent willing to perform live in the studio. ELN plans to host the morning show live in the studio and around campus.
“It is great to finally see a morning show take off,” said Joe Bruno, news director of Elon Local News. “It is something we’ve been thinking about for a long time and its great to finally see it coming together. It should be lots of fun for our whole staff.”
ELN is hosting one show per month for the spring semester and plans to produce more shows during the 2013-2014 academic year. The spring 2013 shows will air on Feb. 26, March 12, April 16, and May 7. Elon Local News airs weekly newscasts at 6 p.m. every Monday on channel 5.
