Elon Ballroom Team Qualifies for Nationals

Flight of the Phoenix, Elon’s Ballroom Dance Team, qualified for the 2013 National USA Dance Championships in Los Angeles, Calif., after competing at the MidAtlantic Regional Championships in Bethesda, Md.

Left to right the couples in Flight of the Phoenix are: Nate Tietbohl, Erin Strosnider, Benedetto Robinson, Miranda Romano, Robbie Linklater, Kayla Harvey, Jonathan Russell, Kayleigh Johnson, Anthony Amatucci, Kaitlinn Brewer, Andrew Fischer, Claire Mauro, Adrian Perez, Hilary Leslie, Zach Wellman, Alexandra Robinson, Justin Pierce, and Lindsey Schmidt.

At the regional competition the team competed in two categories: smooth (waltz and foxtrot), and rhythm (rumba and cha-cha). Every couple qualified in at least one category at the bronze level.

Led by captains Andrew Fischer, Hilary Leslie and Claire Mauro, Flight of the Phoenix is student taught, offering both social and competitive ballroom opportunities to the Elon student body. As a sub-section of Club Dance: Elon’s Ballroom Dance Club, Flight of the Phoenix, provides a supportive environment for team members to grow as dancers, leaders and engaged members of the Elon community.
